A multipurpose space

The Media Library will be closed on 25th december and 1st january and will close on at 5pm 24th and 31th december.

The media library, a spacious and warm place with modern facilities, is designed for professional musicians, amateur musicians, music-lovers, or anyone who is simply interested in music.

It was opened in 2005 through special funding granted by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, with the support of Hewlett Packard.

With its vast holdings of some 70,000 documents (printed, audio, audiovisual and multimedia) and its on-line digital resources, you can:

• > watch and listen to unpublished concerts
• > watch exceptional musical series
• > discover the history of musical instruments and musical repertoires
• > use the listening guides that synchronize the score, recording and comments on a musical work
• > obtain information on the music professions, contests, workshops and music schools

• > 100,000 bibliographical notes
• > 6,700 notes on Musée de la Musique works
• > 2,000 bibliographical notes on instrument makers
• > 15,000 photographs of the museum collection
• > 9,000 items of information on music schools, workshops, contests, training centres, etc
• > 900 recorded Cité de la Musique concerts, including 500 that can be listened to on-line
• > 150 filmed Cité de la Musique concerts that can be viewed on-line
• > 100 on-line files
• > 200 on-line musical documentaries

The music information service

At the heart of the media library, this service offers personalized help to obtain information on specialized teaching, artistic training programs, the music professions, the labour, economic and legal environment in France and Europe, scholarships, residencies, grants for original works, etc.

Key questions on studies, guidance and becoming a professional are covered in some 60 on-line sheets and in the guides published by the Cité de la Musique.

Museum's documentation service

A key component of the Musée de la Musique, the museum’s documentation service is mainly intended to collect and organize information on the museum's collections and on the other musical instrument collections worldwide. It compiles files on all the museum's exhibits as well as files on the leading instrument-makers, including the prices of the main public sales.

To access the Museum's Collections catalogue: 5,000 instruments, 800 paintings and engraving, and 15,000 photographs
