The Musée de la Musique’s permanent collection is displayed in an area covering 2,000 m2 and contains close to a thousand items (instruments, paintings, sculptures and furniture), with the aim of clarifying their social and aesthetic context.
Five chapters have been defined to illustrate the major periods in our music history. The instruments are presented in relation with the repertoire, composers and places in which the music was played.
At the same time, window displays presenting families of instruments or instrument makers follow prestigious histories, like those of Sellas, Stradivarius and Sax. The historic presentation is completed with a presentation of music from around the world, organised by geographic area.
40 documentary films help to place the objects in their proper context.
